Many people have asked me as I call round canvassing support for Melvyn Mills, "what is happening with Walton Bridge? "
The answer seems to be that it is awaiting confirmation of the funding from the Department for Transport. This was expected last month, but nothing was heard and I now attach below the following message (dated 27th April) which has appeared on the Surrey County Council website under Walton Bridge.
"As the next step towards receiving full approval, the Department of Transport has now issued conditional approval for the scheme. They have asked us to provide them with more information on our communications plan, and on our internal risk management procedures. As full approval has yet to be issued, the advance works for the scheme are now unlikely to start until June 2010 at the earliest. "
We understand that the advance works will include archeological tests to determine whether there is anything there of interest to historians of this area.
